You can buy tickets and obtain additional information about the destinations and prices in our Tourist Information Office.
Tours
Discover our beautiful Mosel town with an interesting tour. Regardless of whether you take a traditional city tour or a special Jugendstil tour with an experienced city guide, you can learn all kinds of interesting things about the history of Traben-Trarbach. In the season, a tour for guests starts at 3 p.m. every Saturday; the meeting place for the tour is the Tourist Information Office at the Old Train Station (Alter Bahnhof). At a price of EUR 3.00 per person, every person thirsty for knowledge can take part in the approx. 1.5-hour tour of the city.
You can experience culture and history on every corner on the "Museum Row" in the heart of the Trarbach city district: A very special highlight - and not just on rainy days - is a visit to the Mittelmosel Museum in the baroque Villa Böcking. Valuable furnishings and art objects from three centuries as well as a comprehensive collection about the city history are exhibited in more than 20 showrooms. Goethe and the Prussian King Friedrich-Wilhelm IV were guests there. You can also experience the bourgeois world of the 18th and 19th century. Individual tours through the museum are offered for groups.
In the "Haus der Ikonen", 115 "Modern Icons" of the iconographer Alexej Saweljew, who lived in Traben-Trarbach at the end of his life, are exhibited. In addition, there is an introduction to the technique, contents and essence as well as the significance and "use of icons".
Whoever is interested in the history of the region and would like to stroll through a unique, historic site should take a hike through the fortress ruins of Mont Royal. Tours are held at regular intervals there during the season. A knowledgeable hiking guide starts off with guests on an exciting exploratory tour through the ruins at 10 a.m. every first Saturday of the month. The approx. two-hour hike costs EUR 3.00 per person.
A new item in the program since April is a Night Watchman Tour through the historic old town of Traben-Trarbach once a month. On this tour every third Saturday of the month, the night watchman Jürgen Hey takes you on an adventurous evening discovery tour through Traben-Trarbach following the traces of medieval times. The tour starts at 9 p.m. at the "Alter Stadtturm" Square and costs EUR 3.00 per person. Separate night watchman tours including wine tasting can be arranged for groups.
Starting in 2009, an "Excursion into the Underground of Traben-Trarbach" takes place once a month on a Friday. As Traben-Trarbach was once considered to be, together with Bordeaux, the largest wine trading city in Europe, extensive sections of the city feature corresponding underground vaults, some of them multistoried and up to 120 meters long, a highlight of these dimensions not to be found in any other Mosel community. During this "unique city tour", you will learn about many interesting aspects of wine and the wine making process. The tour costs EUR 4.00 including a glass of wine. We would be happy to organize separate group tours.
You can learn everything worth knowing about work in vineyards, grape varieties, how wine is made and the Mosel vineyard landscape during an informative Vineyard Hike through the steep Riesling vineyards. Our winegrowers would be glad to hike with you through the vineyard slopes and explain interesting details about Mosel wine. Excursions with winegrowers take place during the season several times each week. You can obtain information in the monthly event schedules of the Tourist Information Office as well as here.
The Tourist Information Office arranges individual Jugendstil and city tours for Groups, which we can also offer you in English, French or Dutch. We also arrange Mont Royal tours, tours through the Mittelmosel Museum and the Haus der Ikonen as well as vineyard hikes with winegrowers.
Feel free to contact our staff; they would be happy to provide you with advice.
